Hi All, A friend of mine just asked me about what I do and how to get into it. Although I have covered this before in detail those posts are archived now so I though i’d just post my reply to him here:
————————————————————————————————————————-
First of all - Adsense is a numbers game. You won’t earn big bucks with only 4-5 sites. The more sites you have the more you will earn.
But, where you can earn good money is when you sell a site. A site is worth 8-10 x it’s monthly revenue. So if you have a site earning an average of $2 per day you can then sell it for a good profit.
$2 x 30 (days)
x 8 months
= $480
The idea is then to use this money to build more sites and so on.
There are 3 main things you need in order to get your website earning money.
Unique content
All the sites I make (for adense) consist of articles. These must be unique (i.e not found anywhere else on the web) for you to rank in the Search engines.
There are a number of ways to get unique content (articles):
The best way is to write them yourself. It’s free and you get exactly what you want. But this is also time consuming.
The next best way is to outsource them (pay somebody else to write them for you) this costs $6-$10 per article and each site requires 8-10 articles.
Another way is to buy PLR (Private Label Rights) articles. These are really cheap, you can buy dozens for less than $10. The problem with these is that hundreds of other people will be using them so to make them any good you will have to edit them to make them unique.
The last way is to use a service like ContentFX. This basically takes a PLR article and spins a new one from it using software.
Example, If the original sentence reads “There are many ways to train your dog to sit, lay down, fetch the paper and your slippers”
The software would change the wording to read something like “There are lots of ways to teach your pet dog to sit, lie down, grab your newspaper and get your slippers”
Word of warning - If you start looking around you will see lots of “content spinners” for sale really cheap. Don’t buy any of them! they’re a waste of money.
Keyword Research
This is really important. The idea is to find key phrases that people search for but don’t have a lot of competition. For example if you type the phrase “dog training” (with quotes) in google you will see there are 11,300,000 results. But if you type “dog training for labrador” you will find only 2 results. So if we knew people were searching google using that phrase it would be a good one to target.
There are a number of tools available to find out this information. Some are free, some aren’t, and some are much easier to use than others.
But basically, once you have chosen your topic you would find 8-10 good keyphrases and create a page for each one on your website.
LINKS
The third (and perhaps most important) thing you need to get your website to the top of the search engines is GOOD QUALITY LINKS. I won’t go into too much detail here but a good quality link is one that comes from a website or blog that is relevant to your topic. Example, if your website is about dog training, then you might get links from websites or blogs that are about pet food and supplies, breeders, pet health etc. Don’t know if you know about Google Pagerank or not but if the website has a higher pagerank and links to you it will pass some of that pagerank on to your site. The higher the pagerank, the higher google rates your site.
Another thing to note here is link text. If I link to your site using the text “dog training for labradors” it is much better than just www.yoursite.com because it is telling Google what your site is about.
You can buy a 1000 links for less than $20 but they are crappy links sourced from anywhere and will do your site more harm than good.
One way to get good links is to give unique articles to article directories. These will be used by other web-publishers and in return they must keep a link to your site from theirs.
Other ways are to get involved with blogs about your topic. Start posting on them and add a link in some of your posts.
As you can probably tell this is all REALLY time consuming but it is possible to do it without spending money.
The membership I’m with pretty much includes all of this.
1) They have a team of writers that are trained to write articles optimised for search engines.
2) They have a keywords research tool that will not only give you topics but will pretty much find the best keywords within that topic.
3) They have a blog network that allows you to write blog posts and have them automatically submitted to hundreds of different blogs. Or you can pay somebody to write these as well.
4) They have a step-by-step blueprint to follow.
What’s more the site building is automatic and will leave no footprints. (If you have no idea what i’m talking about here then don’t worry for now).
Obviously if you write your own content you will only have to pay for web hosting ($5 per month) and domain names ($9 each).
It’s not a get rich quick scheme and it can be slow and time-consuming at times. Also not every website will take off. But the ones that do will more than make up for it.
The first 6 months is pretty hard (and is when most people quit) but then it gets easier.
If you want to know more about membership I have a review site at www.superapprenticereviewed.com.
If you want to give it ago but the above is out of your budget then give me a shout and i’ll see what I can come up with. Whatever it is it will mean grafting a good few hours a week on your PC.
